BIO
Katka Hubacek is a Quebec artist based in Montreal. that explores vulnerability and emotion through the lens of motherhood. She works mainly in oil paint and is fascinated by the contrast of what we choose to show and choose to hide. What does it mean to be a contemporary woman and what roles do we play within today’s societal preconceived ideas. As an artist she grapples with history’s traditional notions of woman/wife/mother and how we don’t fit in this modern era. These binding limitations are deeply rooted in her work. It’s an exploration of expression vs narration; abstract vs figurative that has tenderness and femininity contrasted with violence and darkness.
